This Week in Calvinism - April 26, 2013

  • Does the Great Commission negate Calvinism? A more formalized online debate on that topic has begun here.

  • Offended by a "militant Calvinist" who said he would burn in Hell for denying the doctrines of grace, one man has come to the conclusion that Calvinism is "repugnant, unbiblical and possibly even heretical." Another example of why we need to be loving in our defense of biblical truth.

  • Did you know that Calvinism denies scripture, the new birth, and the Trinity? Neither did I.

  • Puritanism 101.

  • Check out Solid Joys, a daily devotional site featuring 365 excerpts from the writings of John Piper.

while the guy hates calvinists and agrees with arminians from a foundational standpoint (throws out the bible and makes up his mind based on his definition of "love"), that still puts him at odds with all the non-calvinists who teach a doctrine of Hell:

"...there's still a major disconnect going on with any doctrine of eternal suffering AFAIC.

How is it possible to correlate an all loving God with a place of eternal torment anyway? In essence the 'orthodox open' view isn't that much different. Even if God doesn't expressly predestine certain people to such a place He creates trillions of people with a handful of years in order to "choose" their eternity so where is the love in that by the same token? The inevitability of most 'missing the mark' remains so that doesn't exactly indicate an all loving deity either."

I think we'll see more and more of this...
