The Emerging Legislature

It's official. Emergent guru Doug Pagitt is running for office:
After two years of thinking, planning and dreaming I have made a decision to add a new component to my work and service life: I am going to join the political field and run for public office.

So, today I announce that I am running for the Minnesota State Legislature in 2010.

While the 2008 election just ended minutes ago, I am setting my sights on November 2, 2010, only 729 days away.
This new endeavor shouldn't take any time away from his ministry. Pastors who aren't busy preaching the gospel tend to have a lot of extra time on their hands.

I don't get it. At some point during the campaign, this guy's going to have to say, "Here's what I stand for," or, worse, "I'm a better candidate than that other guy."

Pomo campaign ad:

Please vote for me. Or not, if you like the other guy better, which is cool with me. I've got some great ideas. However, that's not to say that my opponent is wrong, necessarily. In fact, if pressed I would not say that he's "wrong" about anything, because, I mean, who can know, really? Right and wrong are just labels we use, most often to promote ourselves at the expense of others....Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you, I'm just giving my opinion, and conceding from the outset that it's no better than yours, you know. So, I'd like you to vote for me, but that's your choice, and I'll be happy either way, knowing that you had exercised your free will in the matter and done your best...which is not to imply that someone somewhere may do less than their best, of course. Thanks so much.
